I started a new hobby of making mead last year with the purchase of my 1st carboy. To expand my fun, I ordered another this year. This years purchase was defective, with an odd glass "string" inside (pic attached). I started the return process, with the option of a replacement being available, the new one was delivered in 2 days. I was given plenty of time to ship the defective product back via the UPS store. Very pleased with the overall quality, cost, function and customer service.

I use it to carry filtered water. Very solid, nice product.

It's heavy with water in it, and a hazard. Buy a lift ring, for sure. But I've been using them for years to get Alkaline water at Whole Foods for my wife. Settles her stomach wonderfully. However, when you drop one on another, at least one of them tends to break. I think the ribs give it some structural integrity for transport to and from the store. My wife requires glass for water as plastic is apparently poisonous to her. (It's easier just to haul around these heavy things, getting 3 gallons instead of 5. I've used glass carboys for many years for making wine, and seen some comments about the warnings not to use in pressurized circumstances. I never had a problem with the old 5 gallon models without ribs. Technically, I don't think making wine pressurizes the carboy substantially. You put an airlock on it, and gas escapes under the most minor pressurization. As long as one doesn't use it for a champagne method, it's probably fine for wine. In fact, I've bought 3 gallon carboys just like this one at a wine-making shop. That being said, defective glass will break with little more than looking at it.

Beautiful.. really thats why you go with this over the cheap jugs. I fill with spring water and use it as my countertop drinking water. Its Beautiful.

I receive the package in good condition. The main use of this product was to ferment wort but instead ended storing some drinking water from the tap (drinking water supplied by a major metropolitan city). Before use, I rinsed this container with tap water and filled it with water overnight. The water from the faucet, at the time of this review, has a taste of chlorine and leave calcium residue after evaporation. That being said, I fill this container with drinking water and consume most of it. I Left about 1/2 inch of water inside the container. After a few days, the left over water had a different taste and this container has a fragrant smell. The smell was not foul and not familiar with the taste and smell so I disposed the left over water. Currently, I placed 3 gallon of water for a week to see if the taste and smell will disappear. This is the second time I put some water in this item for a few days, it still has that a taste not sure how to describe it. Like: It looks and feel durable. Take care of it as it a glass product even though it looks like it could take some punishment.

These are great for drinking water storage and dispensing in place of plastic containers. 3 Gallons when filled is manageable to carry and they're not that big--fits conveniently on the floor behind the center console of SUV. The bottom is recessed in a bit which makes it easier to grip when carrying. They look very similar to ones I purchased for $35 locally which were imported from Italy so the price was right and since I ordered two I didn't have to pay shipping. They were packed together two boxes in one sturdy box and received in perfect shape. I'd rather drink water from glass than plastic but I have broken a couple in my time cause they are glass. They sell the plastic caps and mine rest on a non-lead ceramic dispenser I bought elsewhere online with a plastic liner where bottle sets on.

Good quality and can use at refillable water stations. Helps avoid microplastics.

Excellent bottle for filling at the spring and placing on the water cooler. Much healthier than using the plastic water jugs. Only wish it wasn't as expensive, but the product is definitely top notch!
