If you prefer a mattress that's not "firm"...
For years we had been sleeping on an old inner spring mattress with an inexpensive 4" foam topper. It was VERY SOFT, so much so that getting out of bed was sometimes an issue. Plus I often woke up with shoulder or neck pain. FYI, I'm a side sleeper. And lately, my sleeping's just been lousy. I expect Covid-related anxiety is party to blame. Regardless I decided I wanted a new mattress. I decided on a bed in a box. I got one for both of my kids over the years and they seemed happy. Plus, there are very well reviewed products out there for way less than traditional beds. Lastly, return policies often seemed too good to be true (see more on this below). After spend days reading hundreds of reviews and watching videos, I opted for a Tuft & Needle Mint. It cost about $1K. Easy ordering, arrived promptly, set up easily, and looked great. It was rated "firm." Well, my wife HATED it. Truth be told, she didn't give it a fair try. She kind of said she wouldn't like it before it arrived, said she didn't like it after night 1, and after night 2 said she was up all night with back pain. FWIW, this mattress should have relieved her back pain, not added to it, based on firmness and the fact that she's a back sleeper. Didn't matter. Her mind was made up. It had to go. So I called T&N on day three and they were FANTASTIC. Refunded my purchase price IMMEDIATELY and said I should give it to a local charity or, failing that, give it to a friend, family member, or neighbor in need. The return policy that I thought "too good to be true" turned out to be 100% true. Good on them! I gave it to a family in a neighboring town that lost all of their possessions to a house fire. I ordered the 2.0 via Amazon because it was the more "plush" of the options and because of the literally thousands of positive reviews. Oh, the fact that the price was less than half of the T&N didn't hurt. It arrived in about 8-9 days (my only complaint). Very large box that I once again had to navigate to the second floor. Popped it open and enjoyed watching the inflating process (again). After figuring out which side was front and back we placed it in place and let it "breath" for a couple of hours. With chemical smell to keep me off it, I put a cover and sheet on it and slept on it last night. It's definitely on the plush side. I wouldn't want it any softer. But I actually found it more comfy than the 2x more expensive mattress that preceded it. "They" say soft is good for side and stomach sleepers (which I am) and they appeared correct. I only had one night on it but I'm sure it'll be fine for me. My wife joins me on it tonight and we'll have to see her reaction. Should she not like it I'll just get her a 2" topper for her side to make it softer. You can't see the actual mattress so I can't comment on its looks or fit and finish. The cover isn't at taught as the T&N's cover and the materials not as rich feeling, but it doesn't feel cheap. As a bonus, it come with two "bonus" memory foam pillows and though it did smell a little when I woke up my head was on one of them and not one of my "old" pillows. I can't speak to its return policy and hope I don't have to. But I am comfortable saying (pun intended) that this is a nice, inexpensive option for someone who likes a softer mattress.

Perfect Short Queen Mattress – Cool, Supportive, and Great Quality
I’ve been really impressed with this Cool Gel 8” Short Queen Memory Foam Mattress. It arrived compressed in a box, and once opened it expanded quickly and was ready to use within a few hours. There was very little odor, which was a nice surprise compared to other memory foam mattresses I’ve tried. The medium-firm feel is just right. It has enough support to keep your back aligned but still provides that comfortable memory foam contouring. It relieves pressure really well around the shoulders and hips, making it comfortable whether you sleep on your back or side. One thing I really like is the cool gel layer. Memory foam mattresses can sometimes trap heat, but this one does a good job staying cooler throughout the night. The breathable cover also helps with airflow and feels soft to the touch. The short queen size fits perfectly in RVs or smaller spaces where a standard queen is too long, and the 8-inch profile still feels supportive without being overly bulky. Overall, this mattress offers excellent comfort, good support, and great value for the price. If you’re looking for a quality short queen memory foam mattress that sleeps cool and feels supportive, this one is definitely worth considering. Highly recommend.

great mattress for a great price
Great mattress — this is actually the second one I’ve purchased from this brand. The first was a king size that I’ve had for years and it has held up really well, which is why I came back to buy a queen size for my kids. It’s comfortable, supportive, and arrived in great condition. Setup was easy, and it expanded nicely. Knowing how long the first one has lasted gives me a lot of confidence in the quality. Very happy with this purchase and would definitely buy again.

different sizes have different firmnesses
so, ive purchased both the twin 12 inch (labelled as "mattress" in size selection) and full size 12 inch (labelled "12 inch" in size selection), and i personally find them both nice mattresses for sleeping on solo. everything was super easy to open and set up. i let 'em rise for 24 hours and there was no super strong warehouse smell (though if you pressed your face into it without a sheet you could still get a whiff of plastic for like...a week. this wasnt an issue for me though) the twin was PRETTY FIRM for a memory foam mattress. i liked it alot, there was no sinkage or pit that formed when more than one person sat on it. it is for this reason that, when i decided to size up to a full so i had more room to sleep with my partner, i bought the same brand thinking itd be the same firmness, especially considering (unless im a dunce and missed it...) i didnt see any options to choose a firmness or specifications on the item listing FOR firmness (i.e. all i had to go on were reviews, many of which mentioned the mattresses being pretty firm for memory foam) the full size i got was VERY SOFT. like, much much MUCH softer than the twin i had. im fine with this when im sleeping by myself- its not like theres NO support, its just not as nice for sleeping with another person next to you because it IS soft enough that a dip will form under the heavier person. im not the pickiest about beds and firmness and all that, i still like both of the ones i got, and theyre great for the price i got 'em for sure. was just a tad disappointing finding out that the firmnesses arent standard accross all sizes and (as far as i could tell) theres no specifications saying which are what firmness. i didnt expect either bed to be permanent for me, which is why i only spent 350 on a full sized mattress, so its not like im too beat up about it. by myself, the full is plenty comfy and i expect it to last the few years i need it to. its just worth mentioning that the firmness can be kinda... unpredictable i geuss? 🤷♂️

Has Turned Out to be the Most Comfortable Mattress Owned!
When I purchased this mattress I wasn't left too much time to make a decision, my box spring imploded shortly before purchasing, lol! The entire box spring went, from the support beam to the coils coming undone, and busting through my foam bedding, all in one night, all with two moves of my body, lol! I didn't want another box spring and found these mattresses being advertised as 'toppers' to be used on top of your old foam mattress to give 'new life' to your older foam mattress. The idea intrigued me and I continued to research how I could accomplish. Since I like firm mattresses, I was unsure if buying online was the way to go, due to not being able to sample the mattress. However, quickly realized I could return. I looked for a platform bed, as it was suggested, due to not wanting another box spring for my foam mattress. I found the Zinus SmartBase 14 inch Platform Frame and purchased both the mattress and the platform frame. When I opened the mattress, I left to air out and expand on the guest bed for twenty-four hours, then put the frame together. By the next day, the chemical odor that was profound while opening the mattress had completely dissipated along with the mattress expanding the way it was advertised to do. The next day I put the mattress on top of my older foam mattress and new Zinus frame and laid down on the bed. I couldn't believe what I was feeling. Although I was up higher than I had been used to due to the platform frame and the two mattresses together, I felt perfectly comfortable in a seated position and while lying down. I have now had the mattress and platform bed for a few weeks and both have proved to be one of the best investments that I have made in bedding, to date. The neck pain that I was used to experiencing is gone completely! The soreness from having my back operated on, twice, in 2011, was completely gone! When I get in the bed at any time, my body sinks down to a perfect position to align with my entire body. Thereafter, I feel 'coolness'! I was amazed when feeling how cool the mattress is. My original foam mattress is very warm and has always been the only disappointment to me since purchasing. When I cover up if using covers that night, I turn to my side (side sleeper) and have not remembered falling asleep since buying these products! I close my eyes and the next thing I remember is waking up the next day. I have NEVER fallen asleep in this manner since I can remember falling asleep. I love the mattress. The mattress is firm, but not too firm. The mattress won't allow your entire body to 'sink in softness' as the bed isn't made to be 'squishy soft', the mattress is firm, however, the mattress does give to accommodate your weight. Although the mattress was left on the guest bed for twenty-four hours, the corners didn't expand to 6 inches, only 4 inches. I've read other reviews and customers have experienced the same issue. I can only guess the machine that flattens the mattress to fit in the small box the mattress comes in, is to blame. Since the corners don't interfere with the most comfortable sleep I have ever had in my life, I am more than willing to overlook. The mattress did expand to 6 inches everywhere else other than the corners. I like having the bed higher than what I am normally used to, although different, I have found this isn't something that bothers me. I like to watch television while in bed, and this actually assists with my eyesight being aligned with the television screen while in bed. I love the mattress and the comfort it provides. Due to the price I paid for both the mattress and the platform frame, I feel like I have hit the lottery for a few thousand dollars. When I purchased my original foam mattress and box spring, I paid over 1, 000.00 for the entire purchase, back in 2006. For what I paid for this mattress and frame, then finding the comfort and the benefits I have ended up being provided is only a plus all the way around. I can't shout loud enough how happy I am with these products and would honestly and wholeheartedly recommend to anyone else who is trying to decide on purchasing the mattress and platform frame to not be concerned if you will be totally satisfied. (Very shortly, I will be leaving a 5-star rating for the Zinus 14 inch Smart Base Platform Frame, in addition to this one. The frame only compliments the mattress I've purchased. The frame is very sturdy and doesn't move, AT ALL, with the two foam mattresses and myself are on the bed. I am 6'2 and my weight is 205lbs. There is an 8-inch foam mattress being used as the support for the new 6-inch Basic Foam Mattress, including my weight, all is being supported without any notice to any stress to the frame in any manner. I believe my older foam full mattress weighs around 94 lbs, + my weight, 205, + 6 inch mattress = 39 lbs, =338 lbs. I have heard no noises like squeaking or any other noises. The frame doesn't move AT ALL, while I'm on the bed and only compliments the comfort I receive from the mattress. I have spent less than 200.00 dollars for the entire purchase for the mattress and the platform frame, and all this comfort feels like I've finally have won the war on finding something that works as well as I would have expected if I had paid for a high-end mattress and frame.)

Updated 12/2020 made a second purchase!
Updated 12/2020 - We already had one of these mattresses purchase two years ago which has worked out great. So when I needed to replace our mom’s bed we went with what we knew was good. I fully expect this one to hold up just as well. As said the original about two years old feels and looks just the same as it did on day one. That first mattress was intended to be for the occasional guest but ended up being used regularly by a family member who moved back in for job related reasons. We have had several foam mattresses over the years. Some were good and some downright awful. The last one we purchased didn’t last as long for some reason, details on that later. So ordered this to take its place. The mattress arrives in a box about 2’x4’. Inside it is wrapped in two layers of plastic for protection. Unwrapped it pops into shape almost immediately. The pillow takes longer. There is absolutely no smell as some others can have. The materials used are very good. No obvious quality defects anywhere to be found. The mattress isn't too plush or firm pretty much smack dab in the middle for comfort. I have back problems, had a spinal fusion. when issues crop up the mattress in our bedroom is too much for me to take. So I go to the spare bedroom and this mattress gives me near instant relief. Of all I have had to date this is by far the most comfortable. I was surprised because before i had always thought i needed a firm mattress for relief? live and learn. We even had my mom who has scoliosis try it out and she was very surprised by the difference. She has a pillow top mattress that I purchased for her a few years ago. As comfortable as that is she agrees that this one is better. The only negative I can think of is that it takes just a bit to get used to the sides. I mean due to it being thicker and softer if you sit on the edge thinking you’ll be good, nope. If you sit too close to the edge it will compress and you will tend to slide off. That said after a couple days I got used to it so not really an issue. This mattress is great but not all are. As I said earlier our previous foam mattress didn’t last nearly as long as expected. Once this new arrived I went to dispose of the old one. In doing so the ‘all foam’ mattress was a lie. They put a 3” foam topper and glued that to pieces of cheap block foam. So while the memory foam lasted those pieces inserted to save costs degraded and fell apart over the span of a couple years. If you are going to get a foam mattress regardless what or where? Absolutely make certain it is all memory foam and not some glued up mismatch using cheaper materials. All said I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase this again or recommend it to others. Hopefully it will hold up for a few years at least. i'll update as warranted.

Amazing Quality and PERFECT feel. Best value I've seen
This is the 2nd one of these mattresses I have purchased for my home in the past several months. I LOVE IT! I ordered a queen size for a guest room, and realized that the mattress was better than the one I currently had in my own room. For the price... this completely took me by surprise. Coming from the mattress industry on both the retail sales AND manufacturing end, I am very familiar with this manufacturer and have purchased their products with confidence over the years. (Also check out their Cool Gel pillows.. best I've ever used). For this price, I was expecting a great quality GUEST ROOM mattress, but what I got was a lush feeling, top of the line feeling product. See notes below This video (under 4 mins) walks you through the complete process from how the mattress is shipped from the Manufacturer, how to properly open and set up, as well as a full description of materials, quality, and my experience with the mattress. Delivery Method: This mattress is delivered roll pack compressed. Meaning it is sealed air tight in in plastic, and rolled for easy shipping. I love this because it fits through doorways easily, and more importantly for me, stays nice and clean! Unpacking: The outer package is cardboard, the plastic casing is inside, its very easy to remove both. Just make sure you cut away from the fabric so you don't ruin your mattress (explained in the video) Look: 10.5" profile is a nice looking mattress. VERY soft lush ticking (fabric) on top that is nice, breathable and stretchy. Fancy looking grey knit border is a nice modern touch. The feel: This to me, although very subjective, is the most important part of mattress selection. I've always liked this company's product because of their support. I'm roughly 210lbs and this mattress doesn't budge when I lay down on it. I get a nice durable support. The top is NOT rock hard though. It feels very fluid and comfy. I guess the best description would be "just enough mush" to feel nice on my shoulders and hips. They ventilate the foam so it doesn't feel like traditional sticky memory foam. Overall, I think this is one of the best values I've purchased on the web. Really great product and totally worth way more than they're listing it for.

Severely Disappointing and Hard to Return
To start off, I think this is like the second review I have ever left on Amazon. I don't usually leave reviews, but this mattress was so incredibly disappointing that I thought I should share to help people out. First off, I decided to by this mattress because a friend of mine bought from this brand three years ago, and it was the most comfortable and cooling mattress I have ever slept on, which is why I decided to purchase it for myself after moving. I let the mattress completely inflate on a flat surface for 72 hours to ensure it was fully inflated. Straight out of the plastic, I noticed that the two bottom corners were already inflating slower than the rest, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt since it was fresh out of the package. After 72 hours, the bottom corners were still sagging and it never fully inflated to the promised 10in, but I decided it was no big deal and not worth the hassle of trying to request a refund. Cooling: My body temperature naturally runs hot, so the most attractive feature about this mattress was the cooling gel. The first couple of days sleeping on it, the mattress itself was comfortable, but I kept waking up throughout the night drenched in sweat. At first, I thought it was the AC system in my new place and played around with it. I also use cooling sheets and even removed the mattress protector from underneath it to see if there were too many layers blocking the cooling gel effect. Eventually, I tried sleeping with the blanket half on as well as without the blanket completely and have concluded that it's just the mattress. It retains so much heat that I could probably sleep outside in the dead of winter and still sweat. Even after leaving the bed for an hour or so, it is still warm to the touch when I come back to it. Medium-Firm: I am a big fan of medium to firm mattresses, and my previous mattress-in-a-box was medium firm. This mattress was comfortable the first week, since it was firm enough to support my back but still soft enough to let my shoulder slightly sink in when I am sleeping on my side. After the first week, the mattress seemed to have gotten firmer with no sinking whatsoever, and I started waking up sore. I have had this mattress for almost 2 months now, and it feels like sleeping on a heated brick. Again, I have had this mattress for nearly 2 months now, and I have not had a single night of uninterrupted sleep because of this mattress. I wake up an average of 3-4 times a night, sore and sweating, which is very out of the norm for me as I am a healthy 23 year old, 5'3 and 125lbs. Maybe I'm not heavy enough to make the foam sink in or something, but I decided to go forward with returning this mattress. Return Process: This has been the most frustrating return process by far. I requested a pick-up return, which Amazon scheduled through UPS, and I was told to call UPS to verify a pick-up time. I requested a pick up time anytime after 5PM since I work on weekdays, and those are the only days UPS offers pick-up. UPS verified with me that they would pick-up anytime between 6pm-8pm and that they would come up the elevator to my apartment door to retrieve the mattress. However, when pick-up time came, UPS showed up at 4:30 while I was at work, left a label, and told me I had to drop it off at a UPS location. When I took it to the UPS location, they told me they would not take it, because the mattress was not vacuum sealed in the plastic anymore and that the driver would not accept it on their truck if UPS took the return. UPS told me to take it to the Amazon Hub 30minutes away, but when I drove out there, the doors were locked and there was no contact number online or on site. I contacted Amazon again this morning, and they told me they would reissue a UPS door pick-up, which I verified with them that they would come to my door and pick it up after 5PM. They told me to call UPS to verify the time, which I will do after work today. I hope the pick-up works out or else I'll be stuck with a random mattress and no refund. There is also no way to contact the seller, only Amazon customer service, and you would think the return process would be easier if they are requesting for the mattress to be sent back. tl;dr: 1. Every inch matters, except when it comes to this brand, because it doesn't fully inflate and the corners are droopy. 2. The cooling effect of this mattress feels like layering on every piece of winter clothing in your closet on a 105 degree day and rolling around in a sauna then jumping into a volcano. 3. The medium-firmness of this mattress equates to a brick, freshly baked out of the clay oven. 4. You might as well load the mattress into your car and drive it back to the manufacturer yourself with how difficult it is to get someone to pick up the mattress.
